Bone Anchored Hearing Systems
Bone-anchored hearing systems, also called osseointegrated cochlear stimulators or bone-anchored hearing aids, are innovative devices designed for individuals with hearing loss that can't be treated with traditional hearing aids. These systems work by bypassing damaged parts of the ear and using vibrations to directly stimulate the inner ear through bone conduction. A small titanium implant is surgically placed in the skull, which securely connects to an external sound processor. The processor picks up sound, converts it into vibrations, and transmits them through the implant, allowing you to hear with greater clarity.
This option is ideal for people with conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss, or single-sided deafness. Bone-anchored hearing systems can provide significant improvements in sound quality, speech understanding, and overall hearing experience. Depending on your needs, the procedure can often be performed as an outpatient surgery, with a quick recovery period. It’s a powerful, long-lasting solution to help you reconnect with the sounds of life.
